About Voice Engine

VOICE ENGINE is a research project that gathers data on the views and experiences of women who do not have children, whether by choice or not. The aim is to focus on improving the representation of childless and childfree women on the screen. VOICE ENGINE is organizing questionnaires therefore and focus groups, bringing people together. The data serves as a platform for expressing and exploring the perspectives of these individuals.

We're inviting individuals to participate and to complete one or two questionnaires and for some people to be invited to focus groups. Scroll down to participate.

While we might not be able to accommodate everyone in a focus group, we're eager to learn about your opinions and experiences through our questionnaires. VOICE ENGINE’S desire is to hear what everyone thinks.

Rachel Tillotson is a filmmaker and Senior Film Lecturer based in the South West. Her research work looks at female characters from Film and TV narratives who are typically stereotyped or portrayed as victims and looks at reframing them to give them better agency and screen significance. It's important to focus on crafting fictional characters and their experiences rather than relying on AI-generated content.

Rachel’s goal is to create fictional characters based on the research collected. The ambition is to develop personas from your true voices. We are striving for authenticity. Ultimately, VOICE ENGINE hopes the work will be impactful so that one day you can see yourselves better represented on screen.

For those people invited to a focus group, we're initially organizing all the childless ladies in one group, followed by childfree ladies in another and we will also meet mothers later on. Afterward, we'll bring together a diverse mix of participants to listen to shared or contrasting views. This approach allows us to observe how different experiences and opinions interact with each other.

Please note, the work comes under the banner of VERP which stands for Voice-Engine, Reframing, and Playpen: three different ways Rachel is researching how to develop work.

Many thanks for your interest and time

Participate: Childless women

We'd like to reassure some childless and childfree women that they don’t have to participate in the group with mothers, and they can opt for the group that only has their section of society in it. Please do let us know this in the Research Questionnaire
